Town of Davie Neighborhood Improvement District
On September 26, 1988, the Davie Town Council adopted an ordinance authorizing the creation of a Local Government Neighborhood Improvement District (LGNID). An LGNID is one of the four types of Neighborhood Improvement Districts authorized by Florida law (see Part IV, Chapter 163, Florida Statutes).
1. General Information:
- Full Name - Town of Davie Neighborhood Improvement District
- Public Purpose - To accomplish the coordinated, balanced and harmonious development of safe neighborhoods; to promote the health, safety and general welfare of business and residential neighborhoods and their inhabitants, visitors, property owners and workers; to establish, maintain and preserve property values and preserve and foster the development of attractive neighborhood and business environments; to prevent overcrowding and congestion; to improve or redirect automobile traffic and provide pedestrian safety; to reduce crime rates and the opportunities for the commission of a crime and to provide environmental security in neighborhoods so they are defensible against crime.
- Boundaries/service area - The District is within an area containing approximately 22,500 acres bounded on the north, south, east and west by the municipal boundaries of the Town in accordance with Chapter 163, Part IV, Florida Statute (1987) and known as the Safe Neighborhood act.
- Services Provided - Beautification and security within the District
- Delegation of Authority issued by the Town of Davie Town Councilmembers through Ordinance Number 88-060:
- Authority to apply for and receive a planning grant from the Florida Department of Community Affairs up to $250,000 and up to an additional $30,000 to employ the services of technical experts;
- Utilization of Tax or Special Assessment;
- The District may utilize a maximum of 2 mills ad valorem taxes or special assessments on real property within the District;
- The Town Council is designated as the Board of Directors of the District. The Board of Directors shall be empowered to make and collect general assessments to finance any of the improvements to the District authorized in Chapter 163
