Red-light running is a serious intersection safety issue across the nation. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were more than 5.3 million traffic crashes reported in the United States, resulting in 32,367 fatalities and approximately over 2.2 million injuries in 2011.

Of the reported 32,367 fatalities on our Nation’s roadways, 6,898 (21.3%) were either at an intersection or related to an intersection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that two-thirds of those killed were not the violator.

In 2011, there were 4,489 crashes in the Town of Davie (excluding I-595). These crashes resulted in 1,312 people being injured and 8 resulted in fatalities.
