The Need to Conserve Habitat

  • Habitat loss is one of largest factors contributing to extinction of species on the planet
  • Many species dependent on large acreage for survival losing battle
  • Natural areas diminishing due to things like global warming and humans taking over more of the areas they need for survival
  • Migratory birds losing resting stopovers, especially in South Florida where last stop before long trip over water to South American migration grounds and where first stop after long migration back north
  • Exotic plant and animal species invading native landscape therefore usable food sources not as abundant as once were
  • Hedgerows pollinators and other wildlife need for protection and travel being eliminated
  • Numerous wildlife habitats along migratory way beneficial because provide critical elements needed for species survival.
