The goal of hydrant flushing is to flush out sediments that have settled in the distribution pipes. Periodic flushing assists in maintaining the water quality. Typically, hydrant flushing is performed during the "Free Chlorination" time, but can also take place periodically throughout the year, if the department determines that there is a need.
