TOWN OF DAVIE FORMER MAYOR THOMAS TRUEX PASSES AWAY
Funeral service will take place on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022
DAVIE, Fla. – The Town of Davie is saddened to announce the passing of former Davie Mayor Thomas Truex.
Mr. Truex’s appreciation for Davie began in the 1980’s when he relocated his family to the Town where he later raised his four daughters. Mr. Truex worked as an attorney for more than 30 years, with much of his legal profession spent serving at his own law firm.
His love for his community led him to serve as a Davie Town Councilmember for District 2 started in March 2001. Mr. Truex served two terms as Mayor from 2003 to 2009. His passion for teaching others steered him into his most recent role as a Western High School history teacher.
During the Town’s recent Town Hall closeout ceremony held in June 2022, Mr. Truex reflected on his time served as a Town representative and how much he enjoyed making a difference in the community.
“Tom’s passing is a loss to the community,” said Mayor Judy Paul. “We appreciate his years of service and dedication to Davie. He was a committed family man and a community leader. I take this time to offer my condolences to his family and ask for prayers and remembrances to help comfort them during this difficult time.”
In his honor, the Town will be flying its flags at half-staff from Thursday, December 1, through Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Mr. Truex is survived by his wife, Janet, their four daughters Ellen (Charlie), Angela (Ryan), Deborah (Gianluca), and Joy (Charles). He is also survived by his parents Lloyd and Barbara Truex, siblings Deborah (Dave), Theodore (Linda), Deanna (George), Terry (Brandy), parents-in-law Richard and Ethel Postlethwaite, and his grandson Abel.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens located at 2401 Davie Rd, Davie, FL 33314. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Community Church of Davie located at 6500 SW 49th St at 12 p.m. with the Reverend Diane Gutierrez officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.
