BROWARD COUNTY, FL - As temperatures are predicted to drop this weekend, Broward County's Homeless Initiative Partnership (HIP) and its partners, including Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) Homeless Outreach Team and the Multi-Agency Homeless Taskforce (MAHT), are distributing blankets and cold weather gear for persons experiencing homelessness.
Dozens of new blankets and additional items like socks and toiletries will be distributed to unsheltered homeless individuals in Broward County to provide some warmth when, according to the National Weather Service, temperatures are supposed to drop this Friday and Saturday.
"Homelessness is a community problem that requires a collective community response driven through collaboration," said Broward County Human Services Department Director Tara Williams. "That is why we highly value our partnership with BSO and our network of committed, compassionate homeless services providers in a coordinated and strategic effort to make sure on the coldest nights of the year, no lives are lost among the many - too many - individuals experiencing street homelessness in Broward County."
The County will activate the cold weather shelters at the locations below on December 23 and 24 from 6PM to 9AM.
- Hope South Florida - 1100 N. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale
- The Salvation Army - 1445 Broward Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale
