TOWN OF DAVIE BEGINS DISTRIBUTION OF BROWARD SAFETY INSPECTION PROGRAM INFORMATION NOTICES TO COMMERCIAL BUILDING OWNERS
DAVIE, Fla. – The Town of Davie’s Building Division has commenced disseminating notices to commercial building owners as part of the State of Florida and the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals’ newly rebranded Broward Safety Inspection Program (BSIP), previously known as the 40/50 Year Safety Inspection Program.
Under this new BSIP, commercial buildings over 3,500 square feet are now subject to updated requirements and inspection schedules. The first inspection should occur when the building reaches 25 years old, followed by subsequent inspections every ten years. If the building is already older than 25 years and has been inspected under BSIP, this notice may not apply to you.
To communicate these new requirements, the Town's Building Division will be disseminating notices via registered mail to the owners of commercial buildings who meet the following criteria:
- The building is over 3,500 sq ft and
- The building will be 25-40 years old within the next three months (August-October).
Commercial building owners can anticipate the receipt of notices throughout July and August, affording ample time for necessary inspection preparations. Upon receipt of the notice, it is imperative to thoroughly review its contents and promptly initiate the required actions to comply with the new BSIP requirements.
Please note that the responsibility for arranging the mandatory inspections lies solely with the property's building owners. To meet the requirements, building owners must engage the services of a Florida-registered Professional Engineer or Architect, as well as an Electrical Engineer, to perform the mandatory inspections.
