PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY FOR DAVIE RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES EAST OF U.S. 441 (STATE ROAD 7) AND NORTH OF I-595
Davie, Fla.,- The Town of Davie Utilities Department is issuing a precautionary boil water notice effective immediately for residents and businesses in Hacienda Village, located east of U.S. 441 (State Road 7) and North of I-595. As of July 18, 2019, the City of Fort Lauderdale temporarily discontinued its water treatment plants due to a source water line break in its wellfield. (View red boxed area in the attached map)
THIS NOTICE ONLY IMPACTS DAVIE RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES LOCATED IN THIS AREA.
If you receive water from the impacted area, the town advises that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled for one minute, and cooled before using. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
If you are unable to boil water, tap water can be disinfected by adding 8 drops of unscented household bleach (4-6% active ingredients) to each gallon of water, then mixing the water and allowing it to stand for a minimum period of 30 minutes. Special note: cloudy water requires 16 drops of bleach and 30-minute contact time.
Water may be used for bathing, laundry and irrigation. All fixtures should run for a few minutes to clear the lines in your home.
What happened? What is being done?
On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, a contractor doing construction work near Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport damaged a 42-inch water main that supplies raw water from the City of Fort Lauderdale’s wellfields into the Fiveash water treatment plant. In order to repair the line, the water supply from the wellfields has been shut off. This means that no water is currently feeding the Fiveash Water Treatment Plant. The City of Fort Lauderdale has temporarily discontinued its Fiveash Water Treatment Plant due to a source water line break in its wellfield.
We will notify residents of the cancellation (rescission) of this advisory. If you have any questions, please contact the Town of Davie Utilities Department at 954-327-3742 during business hours or 954-327-3750 after hours. Updates will be available on the Town’s website at www.davie-fl.gov, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
