BROWARD COUNTY OPENS THREE GENERAL POPULATION SHELTERS
HURRICANE DORIAN ADVISORY #13
DAVIE, Fla. – Broward County has opened three general population shelters for residents who deem it necessary to evacuate their homes. These openings are not due to any changes in the Hurricane Dorian forecast but to allow residents living in coastal areas, mobile home communities and low-lying areas subject to inland flooding the opportunity to go to a shelter if they will feel safer there.
The open general population shelters are:

The Town is offering free bus transportation for Davie residents living in mobile homes to a designated Broward County shelter. Transportation will be available on Monday, September 2, 2019, now through 7 p.m. or until weather conditions permit. The buses will run on a continuous cycle for the duration of the pickup.

- Everglades Lakes – 2900 S.W. 52nd Avenue
- Orange Blossom – 6651 S.W. 45th Street

General Shelter Information:
Residents who evacuate to a shelter are reminded that shelters only provide basic needs and they should bring the following to make their stay more comfortable:
- Personal hygiene items
- Bedding such as cots, air mattresses, blankets and pillows for their own use
- Non-perishable snacks and personal meals
- Extra change of clothing
- Personal items (medications, eyeglasses, hearing aid, flashlights, toothbrushes, battery-operated radio, special diet foods, if appropriate)
- Baby supplies: ample amounts of baby food, formula, juice, diapers and wipes, and a stroller, portable crib or play pen
- Driver's license, other identification
- Emergency contacts
- Important documents
Pet-Friendly Shelter (Everglades High School)
The Everglades High School shelter is a pet-friendly shelter that accepts dogs, cats, domestic birds, rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, mice and hamsters. Pre-registration is not required. All pets must be in a carrier/crate and all dogs must have a collar with leash. You must show proof of rabies certificate for dogs and cats. Be prepared to show your pet’s Broward County Registration Tag. Bring all necessary care supplies for your animal, including a supply of food and water, food/water bowls, cat litter and litter box, medicine, cleaning supplies, etc.
