COVID-19 UPDATE #22

MORTGAGE FORECLOSURE AND EVICTION RELIEF; REEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS; BROWARD COUNTY CLARIFIES ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES

En Español

DAVIE, Fla. –  The Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has significantly impacted the economic structure nationwide with many people experiencing job loss, reduced work hours, furloughs, and business closures.

To combat some of the impacts being experienced throughout Florida communities, Governor Ron DeSantis issued two executive orders on April 2, 2020, that may bring some relief to families throughout the Town.

Executive Order 20-94

Governor Ron DeSantis signed Executive Order 20-94, a Mortgage Foreclosure and Eviction Relief order. This order suspends mortgage foreclosures and evictions due to a lack of payment for the next 45 days. Please note, individuals are still encouraged to make payments if they are capable of doing so as this order does not relieve persons from making payments.

Executive Order 20-93

He also signed Executive Order 20-93, a Reemployment Assistance Program order. This order directs the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity ("DEO") and other executive agencies to take the necessary actions to improve the DEO’s Reemployment Assistance Program. He has asked that all training be streamlined since there are increasing demands on personnel, infrastructure, technology, and resources.

Broward County Emergency Order 20-05

Today, Broward County issued Emergency Order 20-05 which states that all businesses considered essential should provide reasonable accommodations for onsite employees to properly practice social distancing. The order also states that all recreational amenities such as pools, pool deck, party rooms, hot tubs, etc., whether commercial or noncommercial are to be closed. Please note there are a few exceptions.
