COVID-19 UPDATE #65

BROWARD COUNTY TO MOVE TO PHASE 2 REOPENING ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2020; BARS TO REMAIN CLOSED

En Español

DAVIE, Fla. - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that Florida, including Broward County, is in Phase 2 of reopening, effective Monday, September 14, 2020. Broward County retains the ability to close certain activities, however, there will be no change to how businesses are currently operating when Phase 2 takes effect on Monday, as existing Emergency Orders remain in effect.

Additional openings are expected in Broward in the coming weeks. Despite the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations rescinding the state’s Amended Emergency Order 2020-09, bars in Broward County will remain closed.

Broward continues to move toward a full Phase 2, thanks to the community’s continued efforts and increased compliance with Emergency Orders.

Thursday, September 10, 2020, was the 14th day Broward County reported a COVID-19 positivity rate below 5%, excluding a one-time historical data submission on August 31, 2020. However, officials are uncertain whether key indicators will trend upward following Labor Day weekend. Residents should remain vigilant and continue to take necessary safety precautions.

As the second largest county in the State, Broward will continue to have some of the highest number of COVID-19 cases, behind Miami-Dade County.

While the numbers are headed in a favorable direction, it is still important to avoid the “3 C’s” – Closed Spaces, Crowded Places and Close-Contact Settings, wear a facial covering when in public, and maintain social distancing of at least six feet. People violating the facial covering requirement will now receive a $100 fine, and code enforcement officers are actively issuing citations.

Business violations can be reported anonymously online anytime to MyBroward.Broward.org or by calling 311 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
