THE CITY OF SUNRISE UTILITIES DEPARTMENT FREE CHLORINE DISINFECTION NOW THROUGH MAY 12
DAVIE, Fla. – The City of Sunrise Utilities Department has temporarily switched from monochloramine to free chlorine disinfection effective today through May 12, 2021. The changes will take place in the Sawgrass Public Water System (PWS).
The boundary for the Sawgrass PWS is depicted in the map with the shaded areas. The affected areas includes portions of Davie, Sunrise, Weston, and Indian Trace. This temporary switch is necessary to enable a repair to the ammonia addition systems related to a construction malfunction.
It is anticipated that the free chlorine event will last for three to seven days, depending on the necessary repairs. All efforts are being made to minimize the duration of this event.
The free chlorine switch does not cause any adverse health effects. However, some individuals may notice a slight change in the taste, odor, or color of the water during this time.
Special Considerations
Kidney dialysis centers, nephrologists and hospitals have been notified of this event in order for them to make any adjustments necessary in the various processes which they operate. Any questions regarding kidney dialysis should be directed to the user's doctor or dialysis specialist. Some aquatic and marine animal species are sensitive to free chlorine; persons maintaining aquariums with any sensitive species may wish to contact their pet supply stores regarding dechlorination.
