DAVIE INVITES THE COMMUNITY TO THE TOWN HALL CLOSEOUT CEREMONY

June 11, 2022, at 6591 Orange Drive at 10 a.m.

DAVIE, Fla. – The Town of Davie is hosting a Town Hall Closeout Ceremony on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the former Town Hall, 6591 Orange Drive, Davie, FL 33314. The gates to the facility will open at 10 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers followed by refreshments on the lawn.

Mayor Judy Paul sent an invitation to all existing and former living Davie Town Councilmembers who have served the community since 1961. Davie's former public representatives who have passed will be honored posthumously. The event is the last time members of the public will have the opportunity to visit the site or enter the former Town Council Chambers. After this event, the Town will prepare the site for demolition.

This ceremony will provide an opportunity to honor, reminisce and rekindle relationships. Residents are encouraged to take pictures and videos, share some of their fondest memories, look at Town Hall over the years and share stories with the members of the Davie Town Council and staff.

"I get emotional thinking about leaving this facility for good," said Mayor Judy Paul. "It's like saying goodbye to an old, trusted friend who helped you through some of the roughest times of your life. Since my first term as a Councilmember and now serving as sitting Mayor for more than 13 years, I've had some fond memories – meetings, birthday and anniversary celebrations, welcoming new employees, seeing others retire and being a scenic backdrop for photoshoots. But I knew it was time to let this building go and start a new chapter filled with new memories. One thing that makes me feel better is knowing that all native trees on the site will be untouched and will remain intact during the construction of the new facility. We are in this together for the long haul."

The old Town Hall facility served as the primary municipal office for more than 60 years, providing a range of services, including utility bill payments, municipal clerk services, building permitting and serving as the offices of the Davie Mayor and Town Councilmembers. The western façade of the building pays homage to Davie's historical roots, agricultural environment and western-themed downtown atmosphere.

The new Town Hall has been designed in such a manner to increase the green space, enhance our sustainability efforts, improve pedestrian safety and incorporate traffic calming measures for vehicular access. The building architecture will recreate the original front entrance to the Council Chambers for a historical remembrance of walking from the past into the future. In addition, the exterior appearances will demonstrate our commitment to our western theme with textured stucco, stacked stone and metal roofing. As a result, the building will be safer, more efficient and environmentally friendly while depicting our historical culture.

In March 2022, the facility was vacated and Town Hall services were relocated to Pine Island Park (Bamford Sports Complex), 8800 SW 36th Street, Davie, FL 33328. The temporary Town Hall facility is adjacent to the Pine Island Multipurpose Center, where Town Council and other public meetings are held and will continue until we return to the new facility in approximately 2024/2025.
