1. When are my residential garbage days?

Your garbage days are listed as follows: 

• If you live west of Flamingo Road, your garbage days are Mondays and Thursdays. 
• If you live between Flamingo Road and Pine Island Road, your garbage days are Tuesdays and Fridays. 
• If you live east of Pine Island Road, your garbage days are Wednesdays and Saturdays.

If you are unsure of your garbage days, please check the Town’s solid waste maps located at www.davie-fl.gov/wasteandrecycling.

2. How often will I receive curbside residential garbage collection per week?

Curbside residential garbage collection occurs twice per week. Have the carts out no later than 7 a.m. on your service or collection day.

3. Where should I leave my garbage cart out for service?

Your cart should be placed within two feet of the street and at least three feet from trees, cars, mailboxes or poles before 7 a.m. on your scheduled days.

4. Will I receive automated collection?

Yes. Residents receive automated collection services. The waste trucks are equipped are equipped with a lifting mechanism on the side that will lift and empty the cart and will return the cart to the ground. The process can be performed without the driver leaving the truck. 

For a successful pickup to occur, place the cart within two feet of the street and at least three feet from trees, cars, mailboxes or poles and close the cart lid.

5. Can I set additional garbage next to my cart?

No. Coastal provides automated garbage collection services. The truck is unable to collect bagged or overflow garbage.

6. Are there tips on how to pack my garbage cart?

Here are a few tips and tricks to ensure your garbage cart gets serviced: 

• You are encouraged to bag and tie garbage before placing it in the cart. 
• Do not pack your cart so tightly that it will not empty. 
• Trash placed alongside the carts or in unapproved containers will not be collected. 
• The arrows located on the lid should face the street and the handles should face away from the street. 
• The lid must be closed so that nothing can spill out during the emptying process. 
• Do not place anything on top of the cart as it will cause the cart to become inaccessible.
• All carts must be accessible and placed for collection by 7 a.m. on the day of collection. 
• Inaccessible carts will not be emptied. 

7. Who replaces stolen or damaged carts?

Carts are owned by the Town of Davie and are under the care of the resident. However, if your cart is damaged or in disrepair, Coastal will replace the damaged carts. 

To replace a damaged cart, please contact Coastal Waste & Recycling at 954-580-1292 or davie@coastalwasteinc.com or the Town of Davie at 954-797-1045 or waste@davie-fl.gov. 

If your garbage cart has been stolen, contact the non-emergency police phone number at 954-764-4357 to report the theft and acquire a police case number. Once you obtain the police case number, contact Coastal at 954-580-1292 or davie@coastalwasteinc.com or the Town of Davie at 954-797-1045 or waste@davie-fl.gov, to request a replacement garbage cart.

8. Can I dispose of manure in my garbage cart?

Yes. Residents can dispose of manure in their garbage carts. Please note, the cart should weigh no more than 75 lbs. This is the maximum weight allowed to safely pick up the cart. The cart will not be serviced if the lifting mechanism determines the cart is too heavy and is not safe to be emptied.

9. What if one cart is not enough?

One garbage cart holds three average 30-gallon bags and will be sufficient for most household garbage needs. You can purchase up to four additional carts. The cost to purchase additional carts are as follows:

10. When is residential curbside monthly bulk pickup scheduled?

Residents with curbside services receive bulk pick up once per month.The date of your bulk collection day can be found at www.davie-fl.gov/BulkTrashLocator and follow these steps: 

1. Enter your address in the search bar. 

2. Press enter. 

3. When the search result appears, click on the designated map area for your bulk trash schedule to appear.

11. When is condo or multifamily pickup scheduled?

Condo or multifamily buildings with dumpsters receive bulk pickup quarterly. 

The 2023 schedule for condo or multifamily buildings are as follows: 

• February 2-4 

Items must be placed out by February 1 

May 4-6 

Items must be placed out by May 3 

August 3-5 

Items must be placed out by August 2 

November 2-4 

Items must be placed out by November 1

12. Should I continue to recycle?

Residents do not need to separate solid waste materials.

13. How do I pay for garbage services?

For newly constructed homes built after Jan. 1, 2023, contact Coastal at 954-580-1292 to set up an account for solid waste services. After setting up the account, your address will be sent to the Property Appraiser’s Office and the cost will appear on your tax bill the next calendar year. Otherwise, residents pay for services through their ad valorem taxes which includes a solid waste assessment.

14. What is a Waste-to-Energy facility?

The Waste-to-Energy facility located on SR7/441 incinerates materials to generate electricity resulting in energy credits or fuel that can produce as much as 66 megawatts of electricity used to power over 38,000 homes in Broward County. 

15. What is renewable energy?

Renewable energy harnesses energy from naturally replenished sources for power used for heating, transportation, lighting, and more. Renewable energy helps with U.S. energy security and in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Using renewable energy can reduce energy imports and reduce fossil fuel use, which is the largest source of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions.

16. Why did Davie decide to transition recycling?

This transition occurred because of two reasons: 

1. The global recycling market changed. Low, and in some cases, no demand in the global marketplace for materials such as glass and plastics #3 through #7, combined with the low value of mixed paper and high rates of contamination, have tripled the cost of processing recyclable materials over the past few years.

2. Contamination issues. If the recycling is contaminated with waste, the contaminated recyclables end up in the landfill.  As a result of this transition, the recyclables will be converted into energy instead of being landfilled.

17. What are ferrous and non-ferrous metals?

Ferrous materials contain iron, while non-ferrous materials do not. Common examples of ferrous metals include alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and wrought iron.

Please note that ferrous metals and non-ferrous materials are separated from the materials at the Waste-to-Energy facility and are recycled back into the marketplace to create new products.

18. What are the recycling changes under the new service provider?

Effective June 1, 2021, the Town of Davie will be changing the way in which we process recycling materials collected from the beige recycling carts. The biggest challenge for Davie and is the same challenge for everyone in Broward County is the processing of recyclables. 

For years, recycling has declined based on the global market and contamination issues making the repurposing of recyclables cost-prohibitive. As a result, the cost to recycle has tripled and recyclables are being disposed of due to contamination. For many, this is quite shocking to hear, which is why the Town has taken a hybrid approach to ensure that the Town still gets credited with recycling. 

In this new contract, residents will still have a recycling cart (beige) and a waste cart (green). They will both be picked up by the same truck and taken to the Waste-to-Energy Facility on SR7/441. There, the materials will be burned generating electricity resulting in energy credits. We ask that you still source separate, the material between recyclables and household waste as the Town, other Broward municipalities, and Broward County are currently collaborating to determine the feasibility of opening a government-run recycling facility in Broward County. If, and when this occurs, this would require the separating of materials and the Town will be in a state of readiness to participate. In the meantime, we will have lower waste and recycling costs than anticipated and still doing our best for the environment. In addition, if your beige recycling cart is in need of repair or replacement it will be replaced by a green cart similar to the waste cart.   

As a reminder, please place your recycling cart curbside by 7 a.m. on either of your scheduled pick up days, but no earlier than 7 p.m., the previous evening. 

19. What company provides solid waste services (bulk, trash, recycling, etc.) for the Town of Davie?

Effective June 1, 2021, the Town of Davie will be serviced by Coastal Waste & Recycling for all solid waste and recycling collection services.

20. What are the advantages of an automated collection service?

• No more lifting or dragging your cart to the curb.
• Garbage is collected more efficiently, which results in a cost saving for residents.
• The system is more uniform, cleaner, and more attractive.
• The cart is animal proof and cannot be toppled by critters.
• The lid is attached, which helps to control windblown litter and odor.
• The cart is always returned in an upright position with the lid securely attached.

21. What can be placed in my cart?

Everything that you place in your garbage container preciously, including yard waste, as long as you can close the lid. Please bag all loose items first before placing them into your garbage container, such as leaves.

22. What items can I dispose of during bulk pickup?

• Furniture, mattresses, carpets and other household items. 
• Rock, asphalt, tar, gravel, tile, roofing materials and other earthen materials must be placed in a hard bottom container of sufficient strength for collection. 
• Wire and cable (rolled up and tied). 
• Large and small appliances. 
• Refrigerators or air conditioners must have Freon removed by a certified hazardous waste dealer. 
• For safety reasons, mirrors, glass, glass tabletops, windowpanes and plate glass items must be safely placed in a rigid container and taped for safe collection. 
• Yard waste including:
  • Tree limbs and trunks should not exceed five feet in length or 75 lbs in weight.
  • Piles of leaves or other loose material must be placed in plastic bags and weigh no more than 50 lbs. 

Please note that bulk should not exceed 15 cubic yards. 

 

23. How do I dispose of paint and other hazardous waste?

Paint and other hazardous waste can be disposed of at the Broward County Waste Disposal locations. The sites are:

• North Drop-Off Center | 2780 N. Powerline Road Pompano Beach, FL 33069
• Central Drop-Off Center | 5490 Reese Road Davie, FL 33314
• South Drop-Off Center | 5601 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd. West Park, FL 33023

These locations are open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

27. How do I set out my yard waste for collection?

You can place yard waste into the 96-gallon green cart on any regular garbage day. Please ensure the cart does not surpass the 75 lb limit and the lid is closed. Otherwise, place these items out for your once-a-month curbside bulk pickup services. 

Davie residents can also utilize the Broward County Residential Drop-Off Centers to dispose of bulk and yard waste, household hazardous materials or electronics. The closest facility is located at 5490 Reese Road, Davie, FL 33314. These locations are open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please bring a photo ID and proof of Davie residency. 28. I want to sign up for commercial services, who should I contact?

29. What are the bulk waste pickup requirements?

• Bulk pickup occurs once per month anytime between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on your designated date of the month. 
• Bulk piles should be placed in a location that facilitates safe collection such as away from cars, mailboxes, trees and overhead wires. 
• Bulk should not exceed 15 cubic yards. 
• Tree limbs and trunks should not exceed five feet in length or 75 lbs in weight. 
• Piles of leaves or other loose material must be placed in plastic bags and weigh no more than 50 lbs. 
• For safety reasons, mirrors, glass, glass tabletops, windowpanes and plate glass items must be safely placed in a rigid container and taped for safe collection. 
• Residents with monthly curbside bulk pickup can place the bulk trash on the Sunday immediately preceding their scheduled bulk pickup date.
