Why did I get an increase in my Solid Waste Assessment on the FY 2021 Tax Bill?

On the FY2021 tax bill, Davie residents will see an increase in their solid waste assessment for the following reasons:   

  •  The Town’s Waste Management contract is expiring, and the Town had to conduct a Request for Proposals (RFP). The Town is entering contract negotiations and anticipates that solid waste and recycling collection costs will increase.    
  •  The residential bulk tonnage doubled over the past few years and the assessment reflects the actual disposal costs incurred.    
  •  The assessment reflects new recycling processing costs due to the expiration of the Waste Management contract, recycling contamination and the collapse of the market for recyclables.    
  •  Residents will receive enhanced household hazardous waste offerings (quarterly to weekly) and the addition of residential bulk/yard waste dropoff. Broward County will provide these services through an interlocal agreement with the Town. Residents can go to the Broward County facility at 5490 Reese Road for these services. Household hazardous waste services are offered weekly and residential bulk/yard waste is offered biweekly; the next residential drop-off date is November 14.
